Bikes, Boxes and Chicken

Hello!

So Steph and I started off the day with a bike ride down by the Potomac. There is a really neat trail that runs along the river from north of DC all the way down to Mount Vernon. We only did a portion of it today and made it to old town Alexandra, which is a quaint little district with cobble stone streets and old shops. It kinda of reminded us of Charleston or Savannah.

We also did some more unpacking....it's a work in progress. Found a quick, cheap and tasty Peruvian chicken joint 2 blocks away. It was really good and the best part is they serve Inca Kola!, which is a Peruvian soda that I had back in high school when I went to Peru. It brought back great memories.
Well that's about it. Hope everyone has a great week!

Weather NOT Permitting

The weather was awful so we decided not to go to the film festival--we were sitting on the balcony and lightning suddenly struck about a block across the street from us so we went running inside and nixed that plan. Instead we got in the car (a rare occurrence) and went to get Ethiopian food. Ryan had Ethiopian food in Boston with his cousin, but this was my first time--lots of vegetarian options! We both really enjoyed it and were stuffed when we left.

Ryan is working today and tomorrow, and I have some school work to complete plus more unpacking for both of us. It will probably be a low key weekend with maybe a bike ride tomorrow morning--if the weather decides to play nice this time.

Hi from Steph

Hi everybody,

Not much has gone on this week. We have been unpacking, but we did not fulfill Ryan's wishful thinking from the last post--it was not complete in one night. :) There's still more to go, but it is definitely functional now. Ryan went for a bike ride the other evening and made it over to the Kennedy Center. I had my first quiz and case study so I am definitely back in full school mode now. We are planning on going to Rosslyn's Outdoor Film Festival tonight to see Blues Brothers. We are going to try take-out from a BBQ place to take with us. We also have internet now so that has made a big difference in finding places to go and things to do.

Airplanes and Furniture!

So the movers finally came yesterday! It's nice to finally have somewhere to sit and plates and silverware that aren't plastic.

Yesterday, before the movers arrived, Steph and I went to this cool park that is right next to Ronald Regan Airport. The planes land literally right over your head and are only a couple hundred feet up...if that. You can see how close they are in the pictures below.

When Steph gets back from class we are unpacking for the rest of the day; hopefully we can get it all done today. Everyone have a great week!

Hello again,
So didn't do too much this week. Steph went to her classes and now has homework for the first time in two years and I continued to look for a job.

I got away from the job hunt one day and spent several hours at Roosevelt Island. It's a small island that is national park in the middle of the Potomac between D.C. and VA. Took my camera and got some good pictures which you can see here. Saw a deer up close and everything!

This weekend we tried to go to a Nats game. We went to the park and everything and realized that if we we're going to get cheap tickets we need to plan ahead. So we didn't go. But the Braves are coming to Baltimore in June and D.C. on July 4 so we definitely plan to go then.

Our furniture is coming tomorrow(Monday)! But we've been learning to live quite well without it. Check out our luxurious dining arrangement below:It's actually quite nice out on the porch. We get to watch the planes takeoff and land. Also there is a car dealership across the street that is great for people watching. Well that's about all I have to talk about. Everyone have a good week!

Hi everyone,

First posting on the blog. I will try and keep up with this regularly to let you know what we are up to here in DC. I will also be updating my photos at my google photo site as well if you are interested.
Yesterday, Steph and I went to downtown DC and visited the Native American Smithsonian. On the way we had our first political celebrity spotting! We saw White House Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanual in the mall in front of the Capital Building(see right). The Native American museum was pretty cool. It was interesting to learn about individuals whos lives and customs were starkly different from our own.

Today, Steph started classes and I resumed my job search. I've got made some decent contacts and found some good jobs to apply for, so I hopefully something will develop. The movers still haven't come with furniture, so we are learning a lesson in patients. If you want to see some pictures that I took while we were at the museum check out this link. Anyways thats about it for today. Hope everyone is doing well.
